Stratton Open Space Trail Rehabilitation Phase 1. Colorado Springs, Colorado Approximately two miles of high-use designated trails were rehabilitatied during the late fall and winter; including re-construction of sustainable alignments, construction of several new trail routes, and remediation of several un-sustainable social/legacy pathways. Essentially a fall-line trail system; this project initiated the long process of conversion to a sustainable contour-based system. Cutting edge "rolling-contour" trail construction methods were incorporated into all of the newly developed 'shared-use' trails to ensure they require little or no maintenance, reduce user conflicts, and provide the most "fun-per-mile" whether a hiker, equestrian, or mountain biker! |

IMBA/Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park Gateway Trail Project, Rapid City South Dakota. Once again teaming up with the International Mountain Bicycling Associations Trail Solutions www.imba.com, TrailArts provided Construction Management and Project Oversight for the continued development of this amazing trail-based community park in the heart of Rapid City! IMBA, TrailArts, and Blue Sky Trails LLC, completed over seven miles of machine-assited and hand-built hiking and mountain-biking trails through some of the most challenging conditions the dakota-ridge region could dish out! M-East 1 Gateway Trail. Braving three separate spring blizzards, TrailArts still completed this 2700 ft alignment by the end of April! Climbing from the base of the hill to the top of the ridge, it includes 8 climbing turns and numerous stone features along the way. One of the primary gateway trails on the project, it opens access from the bottom of the Hanson-Larsen property to legacy single-track and new trails along the rigeline.

Far East Gateway Trail. Teaming up with IMBA Trail Specialists Joey Klein and Jason Wells we hammered this one out just in time for the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival! The primary gateway trail for the park, it connects with no less than seven separate trail routes that spread throughout the park.

Wild Turkey Trail. The primary east to west link, the Wild Turkey features 12 climbing turns, numerous access points to great legacy single-track, and rocks, rocks, rocks as it climbs to its junction with the Sunset Trail on the western slope. Once again teaming with IMBA Trail Solutions Joey Klein and Dan Hudson, we prevailed through challenging summer weather conditions and numerous eqipment failures to get this one on the ground!

Far West Trail. A feather in the cap for the Hanson-Larson Memeorial Park the Far West Trail bridges the gap between the lower elevations of the 'western slope' and the upper ridgeline and estern trails! Travelling through deep drainages, under big timber, and around numerous sections of exposed bedrock, Dave tapped on all of his expertise to create what could be the most beautiful and flowing trail in the park! Only time will tell, but this one's a gem!

Telegraph Road-To-Trail. Take a beat-up old access road and turn it into a contoured flow-line? This one's fun for sure! Running from the base of the Far West Trail it has become a vital low-elevation link to the eastern trails and a great finish to an awesome descent from the summit!

High Chaparral Open Space Ridgeline Trail Scenic Overlook. The new ADA scenic overlook offers amazing views of the foothills and alpine ranges of the entire Pikes Peak Region. Encircling the new overlook, the 30ft diameter wet-laid sitting wall offers an inviting destination for open-space visitors and the foundation and the foundation structure for a future pavillion. In addition, during 2008 TrailArts completed major rehabilitation on nearly a mile of the Ridgeline Trail, upgrading it to Tier 3 Urban Trail Standards; and also closed and naturalized nearly 7500ft of unsustainable social and equestrian paths throughout the open space.
