The 2011 construction season is coming to a close in the Dakotas with the first signs of winter encroaching fast! Lots of planning for 2012 already though! Check out our Facebook page for more photos and details about the year! Upper Ridge Trail Restoration Completed! Finally warm enough to dig, we broke out the excavator and hand tools with another resoration and remediation project in Stratton Open Space Park for the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department. Traditionally a 'fall-line' system of legacy pathways prone to severe eriosion and continual maintenance concerns, we were presented with the task of developing a new sustainable trail and performing appropriate closures and remediation of the unsustainable legacy pathways. Resource remediation and restoration is always a challenge in any urban open space park with high user volumes, and trail closures for this project were no different.: extra tilling, overseeding with native grasses, restrictive signage, and and the introduction of copious amounts of slash and tree cuttings to encourage trail users to "stay the trail" all contribute to mother natures ability to heal these badly impacted areas.
